Marin Night Trek

We held a training event in the Marin Headlands on the evening of May 6th. Five of us gathered near Rodeo Lagoon at 10pm for some night navigation on the trails. Once again it proved that navigational skills and route selection beat speed almost every time. It rained the entire first hour in true Hypothermiac fashion.

To "bonk" or "hit the wall": In endurance sports, this describes a condition when the athlete suddenly loses energy and fatigue sets in, resulting in a major performance drop. Symptoms include general weakness, fatigue, dizziness and even hallucinations. Symptoms will not be relieved by short periods of rest.

A few of us "bonked" on the mountain and while conditions were less than ideal, everyone made it down safely. We had ten people on the trip, with most of the Hypothermiacs included in the six climbers who successfully summitted the highest peak in the lower 49 states.

Geoff, David and Jared drove over on July 19, 2008 to Oakdale, CA (past Modesto) to participate in the Gold Rush Summer Challenge put on by Team Karma every year. We raced under one of our original team names - Saturday's Warriors. The race consisted of equal parts foot, bike and paddle. Joining us was Emily, team manager, and 1yr old Annie who were our crew and helped move bikes and the canoe between transition areas.

Cyclepath 2009

We competed in the Cyclepath Adventure Race for the second year in a row. Karl and Cynthia do a fabulous job of organizing and running this event. It was held this year at Del Valle Regional Park near Livermore, CA on January 17, 2009. The sun was shining unlike last year when we battled muddy trails and drizzly skies. They split the teams into two groups – one group started on the 2-person sit-on-top kayaks and the other group started on foot.
